A qualifying L spouse may work incident to valid status with appropriate evidence, including the relevant spouse-designated I-94. An eligible spouse and unmarried children under 21 may seek dependent status, but children do not receive that spouse work authorization. The company’s willingness to hire the spouse is separate from the status actually granted.
Confirm each dependant’s own status and intended activity separately, including anyone who plans to keep working for a Canadian employer remotely, since that arrangement raises questions worth resolving before departure rather than after. Where an assignment is expected to run toward the outer limit, generally seven years for L-1A, the household is planning around a temporary status, and decisions such as buying property or a spouse leaving a Canadian position deserve their own advice.
