THE DIRECT ANSWER

Assess the spouse’s own valid spousal status and work-authorization evidence rather than the vendor’s connection to the principal.

Keep the spouse’s job evidence separate

Eligible L-2 spouses are generally work-authorized incident to valid spousal status. Confirm the spouse-specific record before employment. Unmarried children under 21 may qualify as L-2 dependants but do not obtain employment permission from that category.

Record the citizenship, relationship evidence, and intended activities of the applicant's actual accompanying family members, keeping that analysis distinct from any family relationship that may exist between the business owners on either side of the transfer. Prepare a separate family timeline showing each dependent's passport validity, relationship record, travel plan, school need and prospective work activity. Gather marriage or birth records, passports, prior status documents and each person’s intended activity, then compare those facts with the principal’s requested L period. A spouse who has held more than one status, a child who spent a year studying elsewhere, a period when someone travelled separately — each is part of the household's history and each may matter when options are being weighed.
