What should an L-1A employment chronology show when the foreign role changed?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Record the effective dates and actual duties of each role, with supporting full-time employment evidence.

Preserve the promotion history

Use reliable records and explain discrepancies rather than rewriting every past title as managerial. Establish the qualifying relationship and one continuous foreign year within the relevant preceding three years. U.S. visit days do not count, though brief visits do not automatically break continuity.

Any management services agreement or engagement contract, the invoices and payment records, corporate minutes describing the role, tax filings for both the individual and the personal corporation, and whatever payroll records exist for any period of direct employment. Payroll statements, employment contracts and amendments, transfer and secondment letters, leave approvals, resignation and rehire letters, pension or social insurance records, and passport pages showing entries and exits. The closing set: the executed purchase agreement, the share register or membership ledger showing the Canadian company as owner, the U.S. entity's formation and registration records, and evidence that both businesses are actively trading. Start with incorporation records, share registers, purchase agreements, voting provisions, organizational charts and board materials that trace ownership or control between the petitioning US company and the foreign employer.
