Use accurate descriptions of both assignments and records showing the applicant’s knowledge relevant to each. Identify material differences explicitly.
Preserve the before-and-after explanation
Include dated work examples or training evidence that supports the new responsibilities, while distinguishing team contributions. Keep the prior filing available and explain revisions instead of replacing its history. A new manager’s preference for this employee may explain the business request without establishing all of the specialized-knowledge or procedural requirements.
Internal design documents, architecture decision records, runbooks and implementation guides naming the employee as author or maintainer, significant incident write-ups, and code ownership records where policy allows sharing them. Files that persuade in this area tend to look mundane: version-controlled procedure documents with an author's name on them, a training register showing who taught whom, a log of investigations that were referred upward, an email chain where a difficult judgement call was made. Documents the company generated about its own systems: authored protocols, internal training curricula and completion records, laboratory specifications, change approvals, and a count of employees able to operate the systems unaided.
