THE SHORT ANSWER

A St. Albert household comparing EB-5 with Gold Card should identify the evidence and decisions still required after payment. A bank receipt cannot establish job creation, completion of vetting or permanent residence.

01

Follow the EB-5 investment into the applicable process

Current general thresholds are US$1,050,000 or US$800,000 for a qualifying targeted employment area or infrastructure project, with adjustment beginning January 1, 2027. Qualifying capital must be lawful and at risk, with at least ten qualifying permanent full-time jobs per investor and the required management or policy-formulation participation. An existing filing needs its applicable-rule assessment. Petition approval is not residence; I-829 is generally filed in the 90 days before conditional residence’s second anniversary. Conditional residence begins at immigrant admission or adjustment approval, not at investment or petition approval.

02

Follow Gold Card’s official stages and amounts

Current official terms checked September 7, 2026 state US$15,000 nonrefundable processing per person, then after successful vetting a US$1 million individual principal gift or US$2 million gift per corporate employee. Each eligible joining spouse or unmarried child under 21 adds US$15,000 and US$1 million, including corporately. Corporate terms include 1% annual maintenance and 5% transfer with a new background check. Verify additional visa-related or medical charges and current instructions. A corporate transfer does not automatically approve the replacement employee.

03

Identify who will provide the remaining evidence

For EB-5, preserve project updates and the investor’s actual filing calendar rather than relying on a developer’s general assurance. For Gold Card, EB-1 or EB-2 eligibility, admissibility and visa availability remain necessary, and the government gift is not an EB-5 investment with commercial return. Keep family changes and official communications visible; paying one amount does not guarantee the next stage or authorize work.
