PROGRAMME BRIEFING · FORT SASKATCHEWANFort Saskatchewan

A new route.Know the details.

A hypothetical Fort Saskatchewan applicant wants to support a particular U.S. public project while pursuing Gold Card. Separate that philanthropic objective from the gift requested through the official immigration process. A payment benefiting a public purpose should not be labelled the Gold Card gift merely because its amount or destination appears related.

Start with the GOLD CARD eligibility and application overview

01

Identify the exact payment proposed

Determine who would receive the money, under which instructions and for what purpose. A donation to a local project or another public body is not automatically the instructed Gold Card payment. Do not assume that naming a preferred program in a private agreement changes the official recipient or satisfies the immigration process.

02

Follow the post-vetting government instructions

The current official individual terms are US$15,000 nonrefundable processing and a US$1 million gift after successful vetting and instructions. The gift is not an EB-5 commercial investment with a return. If the applicant wants a special designation or condition, clarify its actual treatment through the proper process rather than promising acceptance or redirecting the payment independently.

03

Keep corporate and family amounts accurate

Each corporate-sponsored employee principal uses a US$2 million gift plus US$15,000 processing. The FAQ also lists 1% annual maintenance and 5% transfer including a new background check. Each intended eligible joining spouse or unmarried child under 21 adds US$15,000 and US$1 million, including in the corporate route, and should be included initially. A separate philanthropic pledge does not make those published amounts disappear. A transfer does not automatically approve a replacement employee.

04

Preserve the immigration assessment

The published result is lawful permanent residence through EB-1 or EB-2 as appropriately determined, subject to eligibility, admissibility and visa availability. Recognition by a recipient organization is not that decision. Do not promise a charitable tax outcome, an immigration approval or a move date from a donation announcement.

05

Ordinary immigration requirements still apply

Because successful applicants proceed through EB-1 or EB-2, the substantive requirements of those classifications remain in place, and they are demanding in ways that have nothing to do with payment. The payment moves in one direction only, from the applicant to the U.S. government, and it purchases neither a classification nor a waiver of any ground of inadmissibility. The official framework describes successful applicants proceeding through the existing employment-based first and second preference classifications, which means the ordinary requirements of those categories, admissibility, and visa availability continue to apply. Practical discipline: print or archive the official page on the day, note the date, and confirm the payment mechanism through official channels alone. A provider's retainer and invoice establish a private service arrangement; the official application confirmation, agency message, and payment receipt establish different facts. A criminal record, a prior overstay or a medical ground of inadmissibility is not cured by a gift, and no official material describes the gift as a guarantee of approval, a timeline or citizenship. The fee should therefore be paid only after the applicant has checked, with counsel, the admissibility questions that vetting would raise, such as prior immigration violations, criminal history or health grounds. The record that settles the point is the government instruction, not a presentation deck or a payment request forwarded by an intermediary.

06

Separate the employer’s funding policy from official terms

If an applicant researches the programme, retain the date-stamped official page, FAQ, correspondence from an authorized government channel, payment confirmation if one is made, and records showing the lawful origin of any funds. After vetting and the gift, the case proceeds to an EB-1 or EB-2 determination, subject to visa availability, and may involve an interview or further documents. A corporate-sponsored variant is described on the official page and its terms, including the sponsor's contribution and what happens on a change of employer, should be read there directly and re-verified before any commitment. The identity of the giver, the named applicant and the official payment instruction should agree; an internal employer promise does not replace that required evidence.
