THE SHORT ANSWER

A hypothetical Fort Saskatchewan engineer preparing TN evidence should show what the applicant will evaluate and decide, not merely attach a technical test sheet. The employer’s description and supporting records should explain the proposed professional responsibility.

01

Attribute the work and its purpose

Identify who designs the validation, interprets results and authorizes corrective action. Explain how the applicant contributes and which other duties are included. Hands-on testing is not automatically excluded, but technical equipment alone does not prove that every task is engineering. A finished report should not be attributed to the applicant if others performed the work.

02

Prove the qualification by its actual route

Engineer is listed with a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree or a state/provincial licence. A technical certificate is not an additional listed alternative. A degree from an institution outside Canada, Mexico and the United States requires reliable foreign-credential evaluation. Any separate professional practice requirements should be assessed for the real proposed work; do not assume an immigration credential decision grants every occupational permission.

03

Complete the applicant and arrangement record

Confirm Canadian or Mexican citizenship, qualifying prearranged professional activity and temporary entry. Identify the actual U.S. or foreign employer and the U.S. entity receiving the services. Sole or controlling ownership of that U.S. entity constitutes prohibited TN self-employment; a nominal supervisor does not cure it. Preserve consistent actual duties, qualifications and ownership facts rather than allowing a strong technical report to obscure a different eligibility issue.

A CONVERSATION IS A GOOD PLACE TO START.
