These proposals should not be presented as two interchangeable prices for residence. Read the financial arrangement and immigration requirements of each separately before making a comparison.
Identify what the money is intended to do
For EB-5, examine the investment proposal, underlying requirements and commercial risks. For Gold Card, check the current government-described gift and processing terms. Do not describe the gift as capital expected to be repaid or use a project's projected return as a guarantee of the investor's result.
Compare the whole household cost
Separate the EB-5 capital requirement—generally US$1.05 million, or US$800,000 for a qualifying targeted employment area or infrastructure project—from additional charges. At least ten qualifying permanent full-time jobs and at-risk capital are required; statutory amounts adjust from January 1, 2027. By contrast, current Gold Card terms list a nonrefundable US$15,000 fee per person and, after vetting, a US$1 million individual-principal gift or US$2 million gift per corporate-sponsored employee. Each eligible joining spouse or unmarried child under 21 adds US$1 million and US$15,000. These are not equivalent kinds of spending.
Test each timeline against the real process
Discuss eligibility, evidence and visa availability for the proposed case. General statements about speed are not a personal moving date. Record what would need to be confirmed before the household acts, and revisit the assessment if the proposal or family circumstances change.
Keep the legal sequence visible in the comparison
Gold Card applicants still need EB-1 or EB-2 eligibility, admissibility and an available visa. Corporate terms additionally describe 1% annual maintenance and a 5% transfer charge including a new background check; confirm the conditions rather than assuming a contribution is freely reusable. EB-5 petition approval does not itself confer residence. Admission with an immigrant visa or approval of adjustment establishes conditional residence, followed by removal of conditions, generally through I-829 during the 90 days before the second anniversary. Keep later obligations and household reserves in the budget. A corporate transfer does not automatically approve the replacement employee.
