Does an executive’s multi-location assignment automatically give the L-2 family the same immigration dates?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

Do not infer each relative’s status from the executive travel schedule or employer plan. Check their actual dependent records and authorized periods.

Track family permissions separately from business locations

An eligible spouse and unmarried children under 21 may seek L dependent status. A qualifying L spouse may work incident to valid status with appropriate evidence, including the relevant spouse-designated I-94; children do not receive that spouse authorization. The principal’s approval is not itself the family’s admission record.

Decide what that split costs: duplicate housing, travel between two homes, a spouse carrying the household alone, and a school year that may not align with the eventual move. Keep proposed school and employment starts conditional on the permissions each person actually holds; the owner’s business-opening date need not be everyone’s arrival date. Children admitted as dependants may enrol in school; a child who reaches 21 must obtain an independent status, and a household with a nineteen-year-old should plan for that rather than discover it at an extension. A larger role does not widen a dependant's permissions, and a household that plans around the promotion rather than around each person's status tends to discover the gap only after arrival.
