STONY PLAIN · TN FIELD GUIDE

Should the applicant buy an evaluation of a Canadian degree solely because the chemist was born abroad?

THE DIRECT ANSWER

The cited TN evaluation rule depends on the educational institution’s location, not the applicant’s birthplace. Identify the actual credential issue before paying.

Match the expense to the requirement

A degree from an institution outside Canada, Mexico or the United States needs reliable specialized evaluation. Other questions about relevance, authenticity or translations may require separate assessment. Do not purchase a standard package on the assumption that citizenship, birthplace and place of education always coincide; official fees and optional private services also serve different purposes.

Ask for four groups rather than one number: professional preparation and advice; government charges payable at the applicable step; third-party costs such as translation, document retrieval, courier, or a credential evaluation if one is needed; and travel. Registration by comity with a state surveying board can involve an application fee, a credentials evaluation, official transcripts sent directly by the university, and a state-specific examination with its own charge and its own study period.
