L-2 child status does not authorize employment. The child’s proposed role needs its own assessment.
Do not turn family assistance into assumed work permission
An unmarried child under 21 may qualify for L-2 dependent status and study while maintaining it. That does not confer the spouse’s incident-to-status work authorization. Identify the actual duties and location before treating document assistance as an available source of paid labour.
Practical enrolment questions are usually resolved by the school district, which asks for proof of residence, immunization records and previous transcripts rather than immigration documents beyond status. The authorization arises from the status rather than from a separate application, and the admission record is the evidence an employer will want to see, so it should be checked immediately on arrival and corrected if the category or period is recorded wrongly. Classify each proposed administrative task before the spouse performs it: enrolment messages, scheduling, attendance tracking, technical support, and payment handling may all be productive work even if brief, remote, or unpaid. Confirm the qualifying corporate relationship and one continuous year of eligible foreign employment during the preceding three years, then obtain the required petition approval or status before productive installation begins.
