Read the general eligibility basics overview
A Canadian permanent resident should identify actual citizenship before choosing the TN application route.
Inventory the documents for the correct purpose
A Canadian PR card records Canadian immigration status; it does not establish Canadian citizenship. TN is limited to Canadian or Mexican citizens. Identify each passport and the applicant’s citizenship rather than assuming a long period living in Morinville changes eligibility.
Identify the professional and procedural questions separately
A Mexican citizen may be eligible for TN but generally needs a TN visa through the consular process. Canadian citizens generally do not need a TN visa, though they must establish eligibility and admission. Neither procedural distinction removes the listed profession, credentials, prearranged work and temporary-entry conditions.
Make a separate household record
A principal’s citizenship does not establish every family member’s citizenship or required travel documents. An eligible spouse or unmarried child under 21 may seek TD, which permits study but not employment. Identify each person’s actual documents and intended activity before adopting one travel plan for everyone.
