Read the general eligibility basics overview
A Devon resident may hold Mexican citizenship and Canadian permanent residence at the same time. Identify those facts separately before choosing the U.S. professional-worker process or deciding what a dependent relative needs.
Use citizenship actually held
Canadian permanent residence alone does not meet TN’s Canadian-or-Mexican citizenship requirement. Mexican citizenship can satisfy that particular condition, but the listed profession, qualifications, temporary entry and permitted professional work still require assessment. A Canadian address neither creates Canadian citizenship nor erases citizenship already held elsewhere.
Distinguish the principal’s procedure
Mexican citizens generally need a TN visa, while Canadian citizens generally use the applicable visa-exempt TN process. A Canadian permanent-resident card does not give a Mexican applicant Canadian-citizen treatment. Check the actual current instructions and evidence instead of assuming the most convenient border procedure follows from place of residence.
Review accompanying relatives individually
An eligible spouse and unmarried children under 21 may seek TD without sharing the principal’s Canadian or Mexican nationality, subject to their actual visa and admission requirements. TD permits study while maintained but not work. A dependent relative’s Canadian residence card or professional experience does not itself grant an exemption or employment permission.
