The principal category must fit the employee's work. Both can support eligible L-2 dependents, and the qualifying spouse's work authorization follows their own L-2 status rather than whether the principal is a manager or a specialist.
Keep the transfer analysis and hiring paperwork distinct
At the household planning stage, record when the spouse hopes to start a job and what documents the prospective employer requests. Check the actual admission record before treating an anticipated move date as the employment date. An L-2 child does not receive employment permission through the spouse rule.
If the spouse's record or circumstances are unclear, resolve that question rather than trying to change the principal's job classification to obtain a different family result. Dependent eligibility concerns an eligible spouse and unmarried children under 21; assess the individual status and authorized period.
